Discover Bonaire: The Caribbean's Most Beautiful Beaches

Bonaire is a small island nestled in the Caribbean. Part of the ABC Islands (along with Aruba and Curacao), Bonaire is one of the world's top shore diving destinations. It's quiet and peaceful—a tropical, pristine paradise that’s practically untouched by tourism. The Caribbean's best kept secret…

We landed in Bonaire on March 15th. The day the Coronavirus pandemic escalated. My sister and I traveled to Aruba and Curacao before coming here. We knew the virus was spreading but didn’t notice a difference in travel until we were en route Bonaire.

We waited in the Curacao airport for our flight into Bonaire. When it was finally time, we walked out to a small plane and boarded with a few others. We later found out that we were on the last plane flying into the island. Our taxi driver said the covid-free island was practically empty, except for locals. The main street restaurants and bars were closed, our resort didn’t have more than 10 visitors, and the only word around town was Coronavirus.

We had mixed emotions about cutting our trip short but decided to stay after receiving multiple signs that we were exactly where we were supposed to be. We were prepared to stay on island if needed and spent the rest of the week rejuvenating in the ocean.

I snorkeled, read, meditated and soaked in the sunshine while my sister Aleka, scuba-dived (Wannadive) at 9AM & 2PM everyday. The turquoise waters are crystal clear with an abundance of colorful sea life, the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.

The 1,000 step beach cove was my favorite spot—surrounded by a coast of limestone cliff overlooks that made for the dreamiest sunsets. A perfect spot for turtle sightings and vibrant parrot fish.

We are now home and quarantined (7th day so far). Our flight home was supposed to be cancelled but our American Airlines pilot decided to fly an empty plane into Bonaire to pick up the remaining tourists before extreme travel bans were put in place.

While we were prepared to stay on island for another month or so (I work remote & my sister is actively job searching), it is comforting to be home.

While I was on vacation, I listened to many Audible books. I focused my energy on high vibrational content that was extremely eye opening and uplifting. Change can be beautiful and terrifying at the same time. If you’re in need of an energy boost and want to relieve a bit of anxiety. Wishing you all happy and healthy quarantining and maybe a new bucket list item to visit once everything unfolds. <3
